We're Here to Help You Figure Out What's Going On

When your car or truck starts slipping between gears, shifting harder than usual, making an unfamiliar noise, or simply not driving the way it should, you probably have questions. You may be wondering whether it's something minor, whether the transmission needs to come out, or whether it's safe to keep driving.

At McMinnville Transmission, you don't need to know the answers before picking up the phone. Tell us what your vehicle is doing, and we'll talk with you about the next step.

We're a family-owned transmission shop with roots going back to 1976. Chuck McCracken moved the business from Smithville to McMinnville in 1979, establishing the shop on South Chancery Street, where we still operate today. His son, Bo, now carries on the work, personally diagnosing and rebuilding transmissions while his experienced team handles removal, installation, scanning, and testing.

Connie McCracken has spent years welcoming customers and answering calls, and she knows that sometimes the first thing people need is someone willing to listen. Whether you've been coming to our shop for years or you're calling for the first time, we'd be glad to hear from you.

What Should You Tell Us When You Call?

You don't have to speak the language of transmissions to call McMinnville Transmission. That's our job.

It helps to know your vehicle's year, make, and model, along with a description of what's happening. Maybe the transmission hesitates when you put it in drive, slips when accelerating, shifts hard between gears, or makes a noise that wasn't there before. Perhaps the problem only happens when the vehicle warms up, when you're pulling a trailer, or when you're driving uphill.

Those details can be useful, but don't worry if you're unsure. Just start with what you've noticed.

If another repair shop has already inspected the vehicle, let us know what they found. We welcome conversations with customers who are trying to understand a previous diagnosis or determine what to do next.

Bo's father, Chuck McCracken, taught him something that still guides the shop today: "Don't tell somebody they need a transmission unless you're sure they need a transmission."

That philosophy is why we believe in understanding the problem before recommending a major repair.
